In order to continue to do a good job in science and technology innovation and poverty alleviation, on July 24^th, 2019, Vice President Xu Jian of the YAST led a team to Xinlian Village, Fengqing County, Lincang to investigate the progress of poverty alleviation work and conduct a discussion.

Discussion on Poverty Alleviation Work

Vice President Xu Jian emphasized that YAST attached great importance to poverty alleviation work and effectively helped Xinlian Village in poverty alleviation. At present, Xinlian Village has been lifted out of poverty, but poverty alleviation is not decoupled. The poverty alleviation work of YAST should also be more pragmatic and transfer practical technology to the village. In combination with the development status of Xinlian Village and the needs of economic and social development, we should further consolidate the achievements of the giant grass cultivation project in the future, and explore practical techniques such as planting under walnut forest, black-bone sheep breeding, energy conservation and environmental protection, and solar water lifting. The application of these practical techniques will enhance economic efficiency and improve people's livelihood.

Yan Hongyun, secretary of Xinlian Village, said that with the support of the YAST, Xinlian Village has carried out the cultivation of giant grasses. At present, the planting area of the whole village has reached 1200 mu, providing high-quality feed for cattle raising and effectively promoting animal husbandry in the whole village. The development of the industry has formed a good demonstration effect of poverty alleviation throughout the county. In the future, they will form a closer relationship with the Academy, do a good job in the prevention and control of walnut pests and diseases, improve quality and efficiency, carry out the cultivation of Chinese herbal medicines such as Panax notoginseng and Paris polyphylla in the walnut forest, and enhance the comprehensive economic benefits of the walnut industry.

Field Research on Giant Grass Planting Base

Vice President Xu Jian and his team conducted a field research on the planting base of giant grasses to investigate the cultivation and growth of the giant grasses and the improvement of the ecological environment. When he went to Xinlian Village whole primary school, he learned that the school is still using traditional firewood to cook. He proposed to consider adopting an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly stove to solve the problem of unsafe and unsanitary cooking in traditional firewood.
